Mineral wool / Rockwool pipe insulation is an extremely high grade resin bonded mineral wool which is used in the manufacture of multipurpose pre-formed pipe section insulation. The wide temperature .range: – 196°C + 650°C permits the use of mineral wool pipe sections on a wide variety of projects. The pipe sections are supplied ready split and hinged for quick and easy snap-on assembly, and are suitable for thermal and acoustical insulation of pipework.

Finishes

A variety of factory-applied finishes are available. The range may be amended from time to time A) Plain: For on-site finishing with sheetmetal, Insulpro hardsetting plaster, glass cloth etc B) Canvas Covered: For light duty indoor application. Painting ensures a neat, attractive appearance. The cold face temperature should not exceed 50°C C) Foil Faced: An indoor finish of glass thread reinforced aluminium foil/kraft laminate for cold service where a vapour barrier is required. Supplied with finshing bands and an overlap for the adhesive. The cold face temperature should not exceed 50°C

Their excellent fit and high compressive resistance mean that Pipe Sections can be applied in a single layer without any additional spacers. Consequently the number of thermal bridges, which have a negative influence on the insulation, is greatly reduced.

  • Where there is a requirement for more than one layer of Pipe Section, it is recommended that both layers should be banded to ensure a consistently tight fit of the insulation.
  • The outer layer(s) of the section should be applied with staggered joints, both laterally and longitudinally.

Applications

  • Easy to apply: Pipe Sections can be cut with a knife when fitting to bends, tees and other fittings. Offcut mineral wool can be used to fill or caulk gaps.
  • Snug-fitting, accurately machined pipe sections give a smooth exterior requiring the minimum of finishing msterials. The split pipe section is sprung open and snapped back on the pipe.

 

Durability

Mineral Wool insulation products have been proven in service for over 60 years, in a wide range of climates and degrees of exposure. Mineral Wool insulation will generally perform effectively for the lifetime of the building, plant or structure.

Straight Piping

Fit Preformed Pipe Sections to to the pipe so that each section butts firmly against the preceding section. Bind in place with binding wire, at
least every 300mm. The most durable and economic protection for straight pipe runs are galvanized steel muffs. Fit muffs so that there is a 50mm radial overlap. These should face downwards on vertical runs to prevent the ingress of water.
The longitudinal overlaps should be lined up with one another and should be at least about 5 o’clock position facing downwards to prevent the ingress of water. Pull muff up tight and snug and fit pop rivets, self-
tapping screws, or strapping to hold firmly.

Biological

Mineral Wool is a naturally inert and rot-proof material that does not encourage or support the growth of fungi, moulds or bacteria, or offer sustenance to insects or vermin.

Zero ODP

Mineral Wool insulation does not contain (and has never contained) gases that have ozone depletion potential (ODP) or global warming potential (GWP).

Bends and Elbows

Mitre details: ‘Going around the bend’ presents no problems with mineral wool, for despite its high mechanical strength, it can be easily cut with a knife to form mitred sections. These, when assembled about the fitting, form a heat seal with the same inherent properties as the preformed insulation sections on straight runs of piping. For bends with nominal bores ranging from 15mm to 100mm a 22° mitre should be used, as illustrated. 125mm to 300mm bends require a mitre of 15°, and over 300mm 11°.

  • Use only 20mm (¾”) wall thickness
